We Care About Your Needs
We are the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.
Everyone is here to help you with your specific concerns and needs. Our
emphasis is on personalized care. Michael Mersol-Barg, M.D., our director,
is a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who has eighteen
years of experience in this subspecialty. He established this single physician
private practice in order to deliver the type of care that big systems
and large groups do not provide. Our goal is to treat every patient as
we would want to be treated.
Why Should You See a Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist?
A reproductive endocrinologist is a subspecialist physician
who has received four years of internship and residency training in Obstetrics
and Gynecology and several more years of advanced training, a fellowship,
in the treatment of infertility, recurrent miscarriages and hormonal
disorders in women. A typical Ob/Gyn resident receives between five and
twelve weeks of training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility,
while a fellow dedicates two to three years more to the field after completing
his residency. Reproductive Endocrine fellows are trained in advanced
procedures such as difficult infertility surgeries, procedures to reverse
tubal ligation, injectable fertility drugs and Assisted Reproductive
Technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Dr. Mersol-Barg received
his internship and residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and
earned his fellowship from the Ohio State University Hospitals. He has
done graduate and post-graduate research in reproduction and has trained
medical students and residents in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
for over 20 years. Dr. Mersol-Barg is board certified in Obstetrics
and Gynecology and also in the subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology
and Infertility.
Our Staff
We have registered nurses on staff to help you with
most clinical concerns. In our laboratory, we have experienced medical
technologists who will be performing endocrinology and andrology testing
so that we will have your test results on the same day your sample is
collected. These test results will help determine your specific treatment
plan. With quicker results, we will be able to get your treatment plan
started (and sometimes modified) as quickly as possible. Our laboratory
is accredited by COLA and certified by CLIA to maintain the highest standards.
During our most recent inspection, our laboratory received a 100% rating.
In fact, COLA gave our lab its highest commendation, "The Laboratory
Excellence Award" for 2009-2010. All of our front office coordinators
have medical and insurance backgrounds so that they are able to guide
you through any scheduling and insurance issues that may arise. Our staff
is well prepared to provide care, support, counseling and medical information
to help you during your treatment. We are all here to make sure that
you have the best possible experience and outcome. Please call us if
you have any questions or concerns.
There are occasions when you will wish to speak to a member of our
staff. The Center’s regular hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. From
12 p.m to 1 p.m., the Center’s phones are turned off to allow the
staff time for lunch; however, we have an answering machine, and our
answering service is available for emergencies. Please be aware that
the nursing staff may be busy in the morning with ovulation induction
monitoring visits and that Dr. Mersol-Barg will be seeing patients throughout
the day. If someone is not available to speak with you when you call,
please leave a message and you will receive a return call as soon as
possible.
The Center is open for ultrasound and hormone level
monitoring along with andrology services 365 days a year. On weekends
and holidays, please leave a message and a staff member will return your
call as soon as possible.
About our Practice Standards
The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Surgery opened
in 1998 using only electronic medical records (EMR) in order to maintain
the highest standards and to avoid the errors often caused by using paper
files. Dr. Mersol-Barg developed his own EMR that integrates patient
health records, laboratory reports and embryology files. When laboratory
inspectors viewed Dr. Mersol-Barg's system, he was invited to exhibit
it at the 2008 American Association of Bioanalysts meeting. Also in
2008, representatives of American Physicians Assurance Corporation (APAC)
inspected our practice. Based on APAC's "excellent" rating,
the Center was awarded its "2009 Excellence in Risk Management
Award".
This award was specifically for making sure all patient care and records
are handled in such a way to minimize potential errors. Please be assured
that we are always working to maintain the highest standards in order
to give you the best care possible.
